City of Hull Selects Simplify for Intranet
August 8, 2001
Hull, — Tomoye, a leading developer of platforms for collaborative knowledge sharing, today announced that Simplify 2.1 has been selected by the City of Hull to serve as a foundation for its Intranet. It will also be used to provide an on-line collaborative environment for the City's Youth Community Initiative, connecting young people from around the region.
Like many cities across Canada, the City of Hull is involved in a process of amalgamation. The City is faced with the challenge of unifying diverse organizational cultures, processes and infrastructures from across a number of organizations. Hull's Chief of Information Services, Donald Picard, has undertaken an initiative to support the process by deploying an enterprise Intranet designed to serve as the backbone for corporate expertise and knowledge sharing.
"The merger of any organizations can be a challenging undertaking," noted Picard. "Corporate knowledge and expertise often gets lost in the shuffle. The challenge is to roll out an intuitive on-line platform where employees of the numerous local offices can come together to share best practices and processes, work towards common goals, and drive the standardization of service delivery across the region," he continued. "Tomoye's Simplify will be the foundation for our collaborative Intranet. The software's intuitive interface and ease-of-use makes it instantly accessible to end-users, while its slim information technology footprint and minimal administration overhead make it very attractive from an IT manager's point of view."
"Amalgamation is an excellent example of the need for process and knowledge harmonization across organizational boundaries," commented John Mertl, Tomoye's former President & CEO. "We are extremely pleased with Hull's deployment of Simplify; we designed Simplify for applications like this." Mertl continued, "Capturing and sharing knowledge across organizations has been traditionally difficult. Our goal is to make it as easy for the end-user as possible without taxing the MIS department. I'm confident we've succeeded."
